The Design Argument The Theory Argument - 1608 Words
The Design Argument In the past hundred years, a great debate has shaken the foundation religious and scientific beliefs of society. Philosophers have been arguing about such a debate for hundreds of years, but there does not seem to be any consensus on whether on the existence of god and the universe. The ancient world never battled over such questions, rather they had accepted the fact that the natural world was created by some being. However, as society made major advancements, the question about god s existence and his creation arose causing many debates and arguments to come about. The design arguments are a popular example of such debates, which is very prevalent amongst philosophers and society at large. ââ¬Å"Simply put, the design argument, or the argument from design, states that the order and purpose manifest in the works of nature indicate that they were designed by an intelligent beingâ⬠(Velasquez 251). The greatest proponent of the design argument was philosopher William Paley, who formulated the argument. As a student of philosophy and avid proponent of god s existence, I support the design argument and philosopher William Paley. I would like to argue against the beliefs of atheism and agnosticism while supporting the design argument as a means of god s existence. I believe that god is the creator of that which surrounds us and science and nature is a means to prove the existence of god, not rebuttal it. October Crisis Essay free essay sample
Significance of the October Crisis From the overthrowing of the Russian Tsar to the exile of the Nationalists, the world has been in a state where radical movements have been the main focus of citizens, even in democratic societies. The October Crisis was one of these extraordinary events that had occurred. It was a period of international and national revolutionary movements that used violent acts against constitutional measures. The 1970 October Crisis was a pivotal moment that had an undeniable and lasting impact on Canadians as it revealed the wisdom of Trudeauââ¬â¢s decision to enact the War Measures Act, demonstrated that the FLQ (a left-winged terrorist organization) was not a good representative of the French-Canadians, and it provided evidence that this event, focused on Quebec, is a ââ¬Å"Canadianâ⬠issue. One propitious moment that made the October Crisis unforgettable was Trudeauââ¬â¢s wise decision to enable the War Measures Act which showed that Canada does not tolerate terrorism. The October Crisis was triggered by the abduction of government officials in Quebec, by FLQ members in October 1970. The War Measures Act (WMA) was a law that allowed the government to assume emergency powers in the event of ââ¬Å"war, invasion or insurrection, real or apprehendedâ⬠(Tetley, 2007). Since none of the requirements were present, it had given a stifling argument for all the negative responses that occurred. However, the counterpart of the decision was yet to be told. Canada had previously experienced many terrorist acts by the Front de Liberation du Quebec (FLQ). The group believed the rights and justice of the French-Canadians would only be recognized if Quebec formally separated politically from Canada. Generally, governments cede to the terrorists, exchanging hostages for ââ¬Å"prisoners of wordsâ⬠. If a similar act had commenced in a democratic country, such as Canada, ââ¬Å"giving in to the terrorist(s) would not be an optionâ⬠(Tetley, 2001). If the Canadian government complied with the kidnappings, the kidnappers would realize that they had a potent weapon to defeat the democratic process. Not only that, but the government would have failed ââ¬Å"to preserve the democratic systemâ⬠(Tetley, 2007). A democratically elected government is trusted with the task of preserving the rights and freedoms of the society that elected it, which means it does not have permission to abandon its authority and responsibilities to terrorists. Prime Minister Trudeau decided to take drastic measures in ending this atrocity. When the FLQ supporters and political critics called his bluff, Trudeau acted upon his word and revealed his winning hand. The War Measures Act was later approved, which many considered to be the turning point of the crisis. This statute gave limited powers to the government in certain situations, allowing the citizens to realize that their rights were not stripped, and lessened the tension between the Franco- and Anglo-Canadians that prevented public retaliation (Tetley, 2007). The power allowed police squads to arrest and search without warrants, to interrogate detained suspects, and then it continued to build pressure on the FLQ. The Act continued its effect by temporarily ending the Quebec separation hype and gave neutral civilians protection from the armed forces, which strengthened Trudeauââ¬â¢s image as Canadaââ¬â¢s saviour (Dann, 2010). While the overall decision for enabling the WMA was the debate of the past, the controversy of today has been the enlightening to the true ââ¬Å"coloursâ⬠of the FLQ. The October Crisis became a significant event because the whole country was later to become aware of how the FLQ was not a good representative for the Quebecois. The people in the Front de Liberation du Quebec (FLQ) are neither Messiahs nor modern-day Robin Hoods. They are a group who have decided to do everything they can to assure that the Quebecois take their destiny in their own hands, once and for allâ⬠(Rioux, 1970), which is what residents of Quebec thought at the time. They agreed with the idea of French-Canadians gaining more control of their lives and becoming their own nation, as they decided to fight for it every day. For some time, many Quebecois had faith in the FLQ, believing the group would speed the process of separation from Canada; however the FLQââ¬â¢s loyalty to these beliefs is questionable. Ultimately, it was perceived that the FLQââ¬â¢s only goal was to give Quebec its justice; they wanted to see them united in a free society. On the other hand, during the October Crisis, they had not been able to prove that. When the FLQ kidnapped British diplomat James Cross, it publicized 7 demands, of which only one concerned French-Canadians, pertaining to fairer working conditions which was later dropped (Tetley, 2007). The rest concerned the FLQ themselves: publication of the Manifesto (a public declaration of policy and aims), the name of an informer, $500,000 in gold, the release of 23 jailed terrorists, and to transport them to either Algeria or Cuba (Knowlton, 1990). A goal of Quebecââ¬â¢s at the time, the protection of the French language, was a cause that preoccupied much of the nation, but was not a particular concern for the FLQ. In fact, the 1970 Manifesto was written in and proclaimed in informal French and ââ¬Å"Fringlishâ⬠(Knowlton, 1990). The FLQââ¬â¢s dedication to their cause is doubtful. FLQ believed that they werenââ¬â¢t going to get caught, hence their slogan ââ¬Å"Independence or deathâ⬠(Brown, 2011). However, when justice prevailed, the members chose exile rather than martyrdom. This made it clear that the FLQââ¬â¢s dedication did not go as far as risking their lives; instead, they were tried under the Canadian system of justice, which they denigrated but later took advantage of. In addition, none of the FLQ terrorists had lived in Quebec! They were citizens of English descent, who decided to defy the federal government by turning the Quebecois against it (Tetley, 2007). In addition to uncovering the truth regarding the FLQ misleading the Quebecois, the 1970 October Crisis also helped make it clear that the Crisis needed the attention of the federal government. It was opportune that the government revealed its strength during the October Crisis when it intervened in a situation that was not only an issue of concern to Quebec. Opponents of the Federal and Quebec governments had agreed that it was the Quebecoisââ¬â¢ entitlement to provide an approach for putting an end to this crisis (Dann, 2010). One reason for this belief was because one of the hostages was a Quebec politician, Pierre Laporte, which reminded Canadians that the FLQ belonged for Quebec, to Quebec and in Quebec. Indeed it was the federal government who, by virtue of its constitutional power over criminal law, adopted the WMA, but in retrospect the provinces also have the authority to request the adoption of the WMA, for the same reasons (Tetley, 2007). The rights, responsibilities, and authority under the Constitution were sometimes divided between the federal and provincial governments and at other times there was joint power and obligation (Dann, 2010). Many people did not believe that the crisis fell under both federal and provincial command. In fact, as the situation got worse for the Quebec government to handle, it was the Premier of Quebec, Robert Bourassa, who sent a letter to Ottawa which privately requested and approved federal help by invoking the WMA (Tetley, 2007). Consequently, many separatists hated this choice, accusing the other provincial governments and federal government for interfering, in which they believed would demonstrate that Quebec and its government was weak and helpless (Knowlton, 1990). Canadians should not forget that the separators were trying to prove a point by demonstrating to the rest of the country that they could overcome obstacles and they deserve their chance to become their own nation. However, the Quebecois agreed that it was typical for the federal authorities to take charge (Brown, 2011). The reason was the security of foreign diplomats (British diplomat James Richard Cross was one of the hostages) in Canada was essentially a federal responsibility. The safety of English residents in Quebec was also a huge factor as they were the targets of many bombings and harassment. Another plausible reason, given by Bourassa, was the ethical reasoning of the governmentââ¬â¢s decisions (Tetley, 2007). If the federal government did not intervene with this crisis, it would lead victims of this event to question the federal support they were promised and spread the news that the government had done nothing to stop the state of affairs (Knowlton, 1990). Therefore with the federal aide, the Crisis gave the nationââ¬â¢s outsiders a confident feeling that the government know what it was doing, even in a time of distress. The interference of the federal government may have been disliked by both sides, but in the end had proven itself justified and necessary. Trudeauââ¬â¢s decision to enable the War Measures Act, the FLQ having been proven to be not a good choice for representing Quebec, and the necessity of federal intervention are some of the major events that made the October Crisis a crucial moment in Canadian history. In some ways, this event was a true test of how Canadians would react to a national crisis, such as handling a terrorist organization, with only the clear option of force on their minds. In the end, Canada was free of separatist terrorism for many years; the most dedicated advocates of violent revolution in Quebec decided the risks were too great and turned to peaceful methods for advancing their cause. By acknowledging Canadaââ¬â¢s example on how to deal with terrorism, many international countries now follow in Canadaââ¬â¢s footsteps, recognizing that what once was no more than a colony, an independent and respectable nation after their time of triumph.

Dian Fossey earned the trust of the gorillas, but human beings were another matter. She was taken into custody in Zaire, escaped to Uganda, and moved to Rwanda to continue her work. She created the Karisoke Research Centre in Rwanda in a high mountain range, the Virunga Volcano mountains, though the thin air challenged her asthma. Ã She hired Africans to help with her work, but lived alone. By techniques she developed, especially imitation of the gorilla behavior, she was again accepted as an observer by a group of mountain gorillas there. Fossey discovered and publicized their peaceful nature and their nurturing family relationships. Contrary to standard scientific practice of the time, she even named the individuals. From 1970-1974, Fossey went to England to get her doctorate at Cambridge University, in zoology, as a way of lending more legitimacy to her work. Her dissertation summarized her work thus far with the gorillas. Returning to Africa, Fossey began taking in research volunteers who extended the work shed been doing. She began to focus more on conservation programs, recognizing that between habitat loss and poaching, the gorilla population had been cut in half in the area in only 20 years. When one of her favorite gorillas, Digit, was killed, she began a very public campaign against poachers who killed gorillas, offering rewards and alienating some of her supporters. Ã American officials, including the Secretary of State Cyrus Vance, persuaded Fossey to leave Africa. Ã Back in America in 1980, she received medical attention for conditions that had been aggravated by her isolation and poor nutrition and care. Fossey taught at Cornell University. In 1983 she published Gorillas in the Mist, a popularized version of her studies. Saying she preferred gorillas to people, she returned to Africa and to her gorilla research, as well as to her anti-poaching activity. On December 26, 1985, her body was discovered near the research center. Presumably, Dian Fossey had been killed by the poachers shed fought, or their political allies, though Rwandan officials blamed her assistant. Ã Her murder has never been solved. She was buried in the gorilla cemetery at her Rwandan research station. On her gravestone: No one loved gorillas more... A Analytical Review Of The Battle Of Hastings History Essay
A Analytical Review Of The Battle Of Hastings History Essay In October 14, 1066, the tragic Battle of Hastings took place. It was fought between the Norman Army of Duke William II of Normandy and the English army of King Harold II. The battle took place at Senlac Hill, about 6 miles northwest of Hastings. Harold II was killed during the battle; historians predict or believe that he was shot through the eye by the barraging arrows fired from the Norman armies. The battle was the decisive Norman victory in the Norman Conquest of England. Although there was further English resistance after the Norman victory, the battle is seen as the point at which William gained control of England, becoming Englandââ¬â¢s first Norman ruler as King William I. The famous Bayeux Tapestry shows the events of the battle. Many battles later on were built on the site of the conflict, such as Battle Abbey in East Sussex. Belonging to the most authoritative family in England, Harold Godwisnon claimed the throne soon after Edward the Confessor died in January 1066. Some historians say that Edward had verbally promised the throne to his cousin William the Duke of Normandy, but decided just before his death to give it to Harold. While Edward the Confessor had a great English nephew who might have qualified as his heir, he was considered to be too young. William had been instituting policy in England for over 15 years, and by taking Haroldââ¬â¢s crowning, he declared the start of a great battle. He planned to invade England and take over the throne. However, at that time, the Norman army was not strong enough, so nobles as far as Southern Italy were called to gather at Caen in Normandy. In order to convince them to aid him, he promised lands and titles to his followers and supporters and claimed that the voyage was secured by the Pope. William assembled an enormous fleet of about seven hundred ships, over twenty thousand men. This force waited at the port through summer, probably because of unfavorable weather conditions and more likely from f ear of a clash at sea with the large English fleet. The Norman ships finally sailed for England after the exhaustion of supplies forced Harold to dismiss his fleet and army, to add to that, many English ships were destroyed by a storm. On the day of September 28, 1066, William landed unobstructed at Pevensey. Harold, who had been waiting for Normans to start their invasion, rushed his armed forces to the north to attack an invading Norwegian Viking army led by King Harald Hardrada and Tostig Godwinson, Haroldââ¬â¢s brother. He completely shattered the invaders at the battle of Stamford Bridge, near York. Upon hearing that the Dukeââ¬â¢s forces had landed, Harold hurried southward to meet the invaders. Haroldââ¬â¢s brother, Earl Gyrth, recommended a delay in the attack, but Harold was determined to show his people that he could defend his kingdom against anyone who tries to invade it, hence demonstrating his power. He headed toward London on the morning of 12 October, gather ing all the forces he could on his way. He arrived at Senlac Hill on the night of 13 October.

Ottoman Empire Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Ottoman Empire - Essay Example The Empire was a strong force in the Middle East and it had extended its territories to all the sides. The Byzantine capital, Constantinople fell in the hands of the Ottoman ruler, Mehmed II thus making an end to the Roman Empire. After the fall of Roman Empire in 1453 the Ottoman Empire witnessed a fast extension to far and wide. In the 15th and 16th century the Empire was extended to Europe, Africa, and Asia. It was during the period of the emperor, Suleiman the Magnificent who ruled during the 16th century witnessed the golden age of the Empire. He had made use the agencies like military and government efficiently and further through magnificent administration of both economy and military he could capture many of the places on all sides of his boundary. The Ottoman Empireââ¬â¢s contribution to the world is immense in the fields of art and architect, military, economic measures and administrative reforms. It can be witnessed that the dominance of the Empire in the golden age tur ned to be a defect in the decline period. So, in the present essay, an attempt is made to analyze the areas as, government and administration, military strength and economic power of the Ottoman Empire in golden age and in decline period. ... The sultans ruled the empire by the help of the imperial council headed by the Prime Minister (New Challenges for Africa and the Islamic World 1450-1750, p.476). But, towards the 17th and 18th centuries political changes caused for the decline of the empire. ââ¬Å"The practice of raising the rulerââ¬â¢s sons as indulged prisoners in the palace to prevent rebellions contributed to a long series of uninformed, inexperienced, and often debauched sultans and shahsâ⬠(Africa, Southwest Asia, and India in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries, Ch.6 p.189-190). The emperor governed the country through different religious communities but these communities later became powerful and so the emperorââ¬â¢s control over them was weakened (Africa, Southwest Asia, and India in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries, p.479). Moreover, the Ottoman state was not centralized and so the control of the imperial was difficult. All these factors of loose administration and changes contribut ed for its decline which came in the 18th century. Military Strength: Military strength was the once the major domain of the Ottoman Empire. Until 1600 the weapons used by the Ottomans were the supreme in Europe. ââ¬Å"The Ottomans adopted gunpowder weapons, especially cannons, which were often built and operated by mercenary Hungarian Christians in Ottoman serviceâ⬠(New Challenges for Africa and the Islamic World 1450-1750, p.476). Until 1600 the weapons used by the Ottomans were the supreme in Europe. The navy of the Ottoman led by the Muslim refugees from Spain was very excellent (New Challenges for Africa and the Islamic World 1450-1750, p.476). Leadership Style Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Leadership Style - Essay Example Also it is a fact that qualities of a leadership cannot be taught at a class room or at any training centre. This study can be referred to as a reflective analysis of my leadership style. I will be making orientation with the leadership theories. After completing the study I have noticed that I show signs of situational leadership and action centred leadership but later I also observed that I show evidences of transformational leadership. Situational leadership states that there is hardly any superlative style of leadership. The most effective leadership style is that which gets adapted or adjusted according to the situation. In simple words situational leadership emerges from the environment, circumstances, place and time (Aluya, 2009, p.6). It resembles similarities with democratic style, authoritarian and laissez-Faire leadership styles. Situational leadership also emphasizes on directing, controlling, supporting and entrusting other styles according to the situation (Kloppenborg, Shriberg and Venkatraman, 2003, p.7). While on the other hand action centred leadership was developed by John Adair in the year 1960 (Reed, 2003, p.53). It can be referred to as a simple management and leadership model, which helps to apply the leadership styles according to the demand of the situation. ... type of leadership where the leader recognizes the need for change, creates a sense duty, raises learning experiences and achieves it by stimulating new and innovative ways of thinking (Griffin, 2010, p.566). In other words it tries to gauge the proper leadership style for a specific situation (Lussier, 2011, p.338). However out of the mentioned behavioural style I portray democratic style. Although since I am a follower of situational leadership, I also adopt leadership styles according to the need of the situation. Providing leadership to colleagues In an office event I was given the duty of entirely organizing a cultural event. The cultural event will have some of the eminent celebrities taking part. I knew that in the course of event I have to devote most of time towards the activities related to it. Also I could not give time to my family which is strictly against my principles. I always believe family comes first than anybody else. In the event I have authorized some individual to look after few areas. Since I thought that would not be able complete the entire process on my own. Therefore it is always better to authorize somebody else to accomplish the task. I have selected some of my colleagues whom I think has the capability of leadership. I was very much confident on them and they also relied on me. When the event was supposed to take place, I noticed that everything was in place and finally the event was completed successfully. The upper management of the organization praised me for my work. I also acknowledged it and congratulated my team mates as they were instrumental towards the completion of the project. I felt that I am also very much attached with the colleagues and remain true to myself. Working with Others I work in a small consultancy firm which

Marketing Condoms to Teens is Ethical and Necessary :: Teen Sex
Is it ethical to market condoms to teenagers? Advertising catches the attention of everyone ââ¬â both young and old ââ¬â but seeking to ââ¬Å"feastâ⬠on the most vulnerable ââ¬â the young. With the young seeking adventure and wanting to learn and become experienced, they are captured by everything they see and hear, whether the information is ethical or unethical. Over the years, sex has become an important part of the media through advertising and sales in a world where sex is important. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American children will view an estimated 360,000 advertisements that have sexual innuendos on television before graduating from high school. A line of condoms marketed towards teens makes critics wonder if they are conveying a message that condoms and sex are. Jimmie Hatz condoms hit the shelves in February of 2004. ââ¬Å"Jimmie Hatâ⬠is an urban slang term for condom. According to the marketers of the condoms, Common Ground USA, they are just promoting safe sex. The marketing campaign targets the hip hop culture. The focus is primarily on minority communities where HIV and AIDS are spreading rapidly. "When you look at the numbers and the rate of infection continues to rise within the minority population, they're having sex," said Harry Terrell, CEO of Common Ground USA. "We say abstinence is the only way that you're going to be OK. But the fact of the matter is, we can't hide and think that they're going to stop having sex." To grab the attention of their targeted audience, the condoms are named "Great Dane" and "Rottweiler" and come in shiny wrappers decked out with a cartoon dog wearing a thick gold chain. They also feature three flavors: grape, strawberry and banana. Many popular rappers have recorded songs that use the phrase "jimmie hats" to refer to condoms. Quotes like "For Players Puttinââ¬â¢ in Real Work" and "Protect Ya Neck" are also printed on the wrapper. Packaging aside, the success of Jimmie Hatz will depend on reactions from the younger consumers that the condom is targeting. Terrell became interested in AIDS activism in 1996 after learning that a baseball player on a high school team he coached had been infected. Terrell has said that the condoms are a "full- blown effort on our part to save our community." Critics of the condoms say that Common Groundââ¬â¢s marketing tactics are sending teens the wrong message.

Pipââ¬â¢s Shadow Parents Essay
He then takes Pipââ¬â¢s hands, and causes him to be disorientated and feel very weak and vunerable. This is, again, like a metaphor for Pipââ¬â¢s whole world being shaken up and turned on his head, and he has control, he is pushed out of his comfort zone by this stranger, and so it creates a strange bond with him, because then Magwitch has total control over Pip. Magwitch exerts his ââ¬Å"new found controlâ⬠over the boy to pressure him into stealing for him, and if Pip fails this, the fate is death. The mention of death has a huge emotional impact on Pip. Magwitch also uses his eyes to great effect to scare Pip, intensifying his stare to pressure Pip even more. Dickens focuses on the eyes and hands in Great Expectations because they show the methods, which Magwitch uses, and the look in Magwitchââ¬â¢s eyes reveals a lot about his desperate attitude. The BBC dramatization of this echoes this, because the actor who plays Magwitch uses his eyes to great extent, looking Pip all over, checking him out, and the whole scene is reproducted even down to the last detail. When Magwitch is led away in Chapter 5, we donââ¬â¢t hear much about him until his return in Chapter 39. What we find out is that Magwitch was taken to Australia by the dreaded ââ¬Å"hulksâ⬠and worked in sheep farming, and this is the source of Magwitchââ¬â¢s money, which he uses to fund Pipââ¬â¢s journey to London, and to become a gentleman. However, when Magwitch is away in Australia, he sends Pip money, in other words, he is Pipââ¬â¢s benefactor. We find out this in chapter 39. Dickens plays with the idea that Pip has no idea where all this mysterious money is coming from, and it is quite amusing. A huge sum of around five hundred pounds (a huge amount of money in the 19th century) arrives for him via Jaggers in Chapter 36. Pip is still confused and thinks that it is Miss Havisham who sends him the money; however, Miss Havisham denies this fact. Miss Havisham, whom Pip first meets in Chapter 8, conveys herself as a mysterious character, who is sitting upon a great fortune, but who will not spend it. Miss Havisham, despite the fact she doesnââ¬â¢t give Pip any money, still plays a major part in sending him to London. Miss Havisham acts as Pipââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"shadow motherâ⬠; because she gives him advice like a mother would give to her own son. Frequent visits to Satis House build up the relationship between Miss Havisham and Pip, and in addition to this, Pip and Estella, since their first meeting, grow more tolerant towards each other. Estella has treated Pip like dirt since their first meeting in Chapter 8. We know that there is a link between Compeyson and Pipââ¬â¢s shadow parents. Compeyson is Magwitchââ¬â¢s arch enemy, since Compeyson ââ¬Å"split the beansâ⬠and blamed all his misdemeanours on Magwich. Miss Havisham, as we discover in Chapter 42, reveals that Compeyson was the con-man who ruined Miss Havishamââ¬â¢s life by failing to show up at her wedding. The social class system in the mid-19th century was much stronger than it is today. There was a more obvious divide between the rich and the poor. Nowadays, it is less apparent. At the time Dickens is writing, it was ââ¬Å"easier to become a gentlemanâ⬠. Before the novel, the only way you could become a gentleman was to be born into a rich upper-class family, and brought up in decent surroundings. Pip was born in the working-class ââ¬Å"bandâ⬠and works his way to becoming a gentleman, aided along the way by Miss Havisham. Dickensââ¬â¢ writing style throughout the whole novel ends the novel on a cliff-hanger. The reason for this is because of the original format of the book. Great Expectations was published in a journal format (one chapter per journal) in a publication called All The Year Round from December 1, 1860 to August 3, 1861. The writing style is apparent throughout the whole novel. 1,207 wordsà English Coursework Mr Bacsich James Cull Page 1 08/05/2007 Show preview only The above preview is unformatted text This student written piece of work is one of many that can be found in our GCSE Great Expectations section.

Essay on Psychology Personality Theories - 1715 Words
Introduction: What is Personality? Allport defines personality as ââ¬Ëthe dynamic organisation within the individual of those psychological systems that determine his unique adjustment to his environmentââ¬â¢ (Allport, 1937). An individualââ¬â¢s unique personality traits and attributes are a powerful indicator of how he/she will interact with the work environment. The difference between average and outstanding employees can often be solely personality related. As the employee is the most valuable asset to the company, ââ¬Ëselecting the right employee during the process is criticalââ¬â¢ (Carbery and Cross, 2013, pp. 41-53) Traditional Theory Vs Cognitive Theory When we speak about personality, we must consider the two prominent schools of thought:â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Differences in Personality Both nature and nurture interplay to determine personality characteristics. Nature is heredity and passed on at conception. Nurture is that which is environmentally developed. It is innate that a baby will crawl, but he needs the support of his environment (diet, etc.) if he is to ultimately survive. Our behaviour is the result of a combination of inborn traits and the situations in which we find ourselves. There are five categorise which help influence personality differences. Genetically, offspring tend to take on some of the characteristics of their parents. However, this could be due to long term exposure to the personalities of their parents rather than their genetic coding. Whether a person is male or female determines what gender role they take on. ââ¬ËWomen are expected to be nurturing, attractive, emotional, weak, and subordinate to men; whereas, men are the strong, rational, objective, and financial providersââ¬â¢ (Loue and Sajatovic, 2007). Ones family experiences c an also influence a personââ¬â¢s behaviour. Family experiences like: ââ¬Ëfamily size, birth order, differential parental orientations towards childrenââ¬â¢ etc. will impact on the emergence of personality as well as a personââ¬â¢s suitability to leadership roles (Morley and Moore et al., 2004, pp. 28-52).
