Thomas Simmons College Introduction As a social worker, there will be times when conflict arises when practicing group work, which can be a source of fear and anxiety for a worker?s (Kendler, 2002). However, if provided the necessary skills, workers will be able to better navigate conflict when it does arise. This article explores a moment of conflict within in a group that can be identified as a critical incident. A critical incident, in the context of group work, can be described as a moment in practice situations that address difficult questions or concerns, can be an opportunity to explore differences and how we manage them, or present dilemmas. If not addressed and the conflict remains unresolved it can have an impact on the outcome of the group (need to cite). To better understand how a critical incident can be addressed by a worker, this paper will examine the group setting, it?s purpose, analyze a critical incident, demands for work, and interventions.
